One Color Wood Letter Canvas

So, I found this article on Pinterest and I fell in love with it(and it didn't look hard, which I'm a complete coward when it comes to things I don't know will work out)!  But, when I clicked the link, it led me to another link, to another link, to just a similar piece of artwork that someone had done and was selling for 498 buckaroos....gag me with a stick!  One of the links (Inspiration For Moms) gave me most of the how to...but I fixed up my own concoction of instructions and supplies.  I had made the red one for Valentine's this year with the hubby, but my best friend's wedding was coming up, so I was making the teal "Mr & Mrs" for her wedding gift(Congratulations, Shayna, by the way!) and I'll be showing you how I did this one!

First thing first!  Your "ingredient list":

  • Canvas
    • Choose the size of canvas of whatever fulfills your needs.  Both of the ones I made were 12x12 Master's Touch canvases and I bought them at Hobby Lobby.  They were about 5 dollars each, with coupons used for both.  P.s. did you know that on Hobby Lobby's website, you can almost always find a 40% off one item coupon?  I had to find this out myself and was so angry for the all the things I have bought without using that coupon!  Use it!
  • Wood Letters
    • Wood letters are hard as heck to find!  Not only are the size and font you want in hiding but so is capital vs. lowercase letters!  I had to play detective for a few hours going from store to store to find what I wanted.  I finally found these letters on the side of a random case in Michaels and they actually worked best for both projects.  The & sign was easier however and was in the normal placement in Michaels, hallelujah!  The letters were each $1.99 and the & sign was $2.99, making the total about 13 dollars.
  • Spray Glue
    • I used Elmer's spray glue on both projects.  It was about 5 bucks, but it has lasted me two projects and will probably another 2, so it's paid its way through.
  • Spray Paint
    • Time to sniff spray paint!  What color would you like your masterpiece to be?  The red I used on the first was Krylon Gloss Cherry Red, and the teal was Rust-Oleum's Satin Lagoon.   I couldn't find any other teal colored spray paint at either of the stores I went to so thankfully this worked like a charm!  The Krylon was a cheaper brand than Rust-Oleum, but they both were right around 3 dollars at Walmart.
If you want to paint your canvas white like the link above, then you only need to spray paint the letters before you glue them to your canvas, otherwise there are places that you can miss on certain parts of the letters next to the canvas.  However, if you are doing it a different color like mine, then you need to spray paint the canvas and the letters seperately before gluing.  I, in my new to bloggingness, forgot to take a picture of this process, but please don't hate me!   I did two coats on the letters and the canvas to make sure the paint was even.  I then measure and glued where I wanted my letters to go on my canvas(Haha, just kidding, I totally just put them where I thought they were even, and you can obviously see how bad my estimation was on the picture.  Psh measuring your lines, "Ain't nobody got time for that!") and did another coat of the spray paint to make sure it was as beautiful as can be!

I had to put the canvas on my awesome blue chair for you to get an idea of how teal it was, for in my other pictures it just looked completely blue, so don't mind the horrible background.

And voila!  Your finished product should look like this, and hopefully even better!  The whole project cost me $26 give or take a couple dollars. :)

Enjoy!

Our Life as We Know It

Well, hello!
We are the Taylor family and we live in Cache Valley, Utah.  We are a young family of three, my name is Rachel, my husband, Antoni, and our beautiful daughter, Raelynn.  Me and Antoni will be sharing this blog, I will be using it for all my stay at home momness, mostly DIY's(Do it Yourself), recipes, and our adventures.  The hubby will be using it for his business he's starting.  He has aspired to be an entrepreneur his whole life and this is going to be his big beginning.

I, on the other hand, love English.  I love writing it, reading it, editing it, and most importantly, teaching it.  And now that I've said that, I'm probably going to make a million grammatical errors and you all are going to correct me and I'm going to feel like an idiot.  Anyway!  I hope to one day attend college and earn my degree to teach, but right now I couldn't be happier spending every day with my little girl.

I hope you enjoy our blog!
